First and foremost, if you do plan on selling online, you must have a basic understanding of the following software: Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and if these work for you, why not try Illustrator and Flash. Next it is paramount to possess a good digital camera. I use the CanonG10 and I take all my own pictures for display.

There are so many Internet sites to sell ones art on that I can only mention the few I am familiar with. EBAY- great if you want to sell art cheap. This will work for you if you paint quickly, your canvas is not the more expensive gallery type and you can absorb the shipping costs. Ebay encourages artists to include free shipping in the cost of their abstract paintings. Some artists get around this by selling their art un-stretched and the buyer must have their new painting stretched by any local frame shop. Ebay is not the best place right now to sell art for any measurable profit. After paying for materials, listing fees, seller fees and PayPal fees, there is not much room for profit. There are other excellent sites to sell your art. ETSY.com is my preferred site at the present time because its focus is entirely on the selling of art “Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade.” (quote taken from Etsy site.) This site is the best fit for my style of modern abstract paintings, and unlike Ebay, the buyers are prepared to pay a fair price for original art. There is no harm in registering your abstract paintings at as many abstract painting selling sites as you can.

One feature that these sites offer is the ability to bargain. In galleries, it is the owner /curator who sets the price but on the Internet, the artist is in control of all aspects of their selling. Lastly, after you have sold an abstract painting to someone living in a remote location there is still the problem of how to send the piece quickly, and safely. Do I tell about crating and shipping methods? Don’t see why not but it could be a separate page I have shipped my contemporary paintings to virtually everywhere on earth including, the Sultanate of Oman, Brunei, Isle of Man, Iceland, Greece, Spain, Italy, Sierra Leone, Belgium, Mexico, Hawaii, South Africa, and have discovered that there is nowhere on earth that can’t be reached by UPS!
